What is a CLNC

A Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC) is a Registered Nurse who has completed the CLNC Certification Program. The CLNC utilizes existing healthcare expertise  along with the specialized legal nurse consultant training to consult on numerous medical related cases, such as physical or mental health, illness or injury

Description of Services

 

Screening Cases: Screen/investigate cases for merit. 


Case Analysis: Identify & review relevant medical records, hospital policies and procedures, other essential documents & tangible items; Organize, tab & paginate medical records; Summarize, translate & interpret medical records; Define the applicable standards of care as well as deviations from, & adherence to the applicable standards of care; Identify factors that caused or contributed to the alleged damages and/or injuries; Identify & recommend potential defendants; Identify issues of tampering with the medical records; Assess the alleged damages and/or injuries


Report Writing: Prepare chronologies of the medical events involved in a case; Develop written reports for use as study tools by the attorney


Discovery and Court Preparation: Prepare deposition and trial questions; Prepare interrogatories; Review and draft responses to various legal documents and correspondence for the attorney’s signature; Review, analyze and summarize depositions, including past testimony; Assist in exhibit preparation; Attend depositions, trials, review panels and arbitration and mediation hearings; Coordinate and assist in facilitating focus groups and mock trials; Assist in resolution of cases through alternative dispute resolution, such as arbitration and mediation


Work with Expert & Other Witnesses: Locate and interface with expert witnesses; Communicate with potential testifying experts; Analyze and compare expert witness reports and other work products; Help prepare witnesses and experts for deposition and trial; Serve as an expert witness and testify to the nursing standard of care


Attorney Support: Conduct literature searches and integrate the literature and standards/guidelines into the case analysis; Research and analyze the validity of research studies relied on by all parties; Expand the attorney’s medical library


Independent Medical Exams (IME): Coordinate and attend IMEs
